Thanet Drum Tuition is a small, local business that specialises in teaching children and adults how to play percussion instruments. We teach many different types of percussion from, the drum kit, tuned percussion and many different world music genres. Our teachers teach on either a one on one, or one to two basis. We also run many different world music workshops, from the thrilling and exciting samba, to the rhythmical dance of the Djembe!
We aim to help schools as much as we can. Our teachers help children learn percussive parts for performances, grades, compositions and all-round enjoyment.
Our mission is to open the doors of the percussive world, and welcome all to join in with us. We are trying to open a new world of sounds and creativity for all to join in. We find ourselves wanting to help create a balanced and well-rounded curriculum, by bringing new, mind-blowing experiences to you, through either our workshops or peripatetic percussion lessons.
Thanet Drum Tuition believe that with our peripatetic lessons, children are given the opportunity to learn new and exciting transferable skills.
About Our Staff
Graham is an accomplished Percussionist & Drummer with Grades in Trinity Guildhall School of Music. As well as The Drum Kit, Graham also plays the Piano, Marimba, Xylophone, Timpani, most Untuned Percussion and composes for large ensemble groups. Graham started playing music when he was 13 and the Drum Kit was the first instrument he tried playing. He found that the wide expanse of rhythmical techniques and expressions that the percussive side of music offered created endless possibilities for not only playing, but also creating music.
After a year of Drum Lessons, Graham joined a local percussion group called 'Percussion School'. Here he learnt how to perform and teach about African Drumming, Samba and Garage or 'Stomp' Percussion. Graham Spent 6 years working with 'Percussion School' and in 2008 he helped write and perform a piece that they performed in the Royal Albert Hall in November 2008. When Graham joined University he turned his focus onto composing more varied music, this included a full orchestral score for Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lion King, both performances Graham worked closely with the percussionists to create a new percussive sound in the performances.
By the end of University, Graham had found himself as an accomplished composer and had worked with Ogilvy Advertisers in London to create demo tracks for BP Adverts and had scored the soundtrack to the latest Motorola Defy 'Life-proof' Advert.
